Parental Controls

Using parental controls

With Kanopy's parental controls enabled, you can only view titles in Kanopy Kids. You'll need to enter a four-digit PIN to exit Kanopy Kids or watch videos outside of Kanopy Kids.

To set up parental controls

  1. Log in to your Kanopy from a web or mobile browser.
  2. Go to My Account > Settings and select Parental Controls. If you access your account from the app, you may be required to go to kanopy.com/parentalcontrols.
  3. Enter a four-digit PIN and select Turn On. We recommend using an original PIN that doesn't include any part of your address, phone number, or other numbers that your child might guess.
  4. Navigate to Kanopy Kids. When you want to exit Kanopy Kids, enter the PIN.

Parental controls can only be managed from a browser, though your PIN will be required to exit Kanopy Kids from any device.

To disable your PIN

  1. Go to Parental Controls and enter your PIN.
  2. Select Turn Off.

To reset your PIN

  1. Go to Parental Controls and select Forgot PIN?
  2. Select Send. Directions for resetting your PIN will be sent to the email address associated with your Kanopy account.

A Forgot PIN link will be available across all devices, but you can only reset your PIN through a browser. If you're using the Kanopy app, the link in the email will redirect you to the Kanopy website.

Filtering your Libby catalog

Libby does not currently offer a "Kids Only" version of its catalog. However, you can adjust the "Audience" filter to filter your library's catalog to only titles that are age-appropriate.

To filter:

  1. In a list or search results, tap open filters dialog to apply filters.
  2. Adjust your "Audience" filters to the appropriate age range and default sorting option, then tap Show Titles.

Tap the applied sort or filter to:

  • Quickly change it.
  • Pin it, and the sort or filter will be applied to all lists, search results, and the library home screen until you remove it.
  • Remove it.

Toggle on Kids Mode

CloudLibrary has a "Kids Mode" to help children use the app more easily. It shows bigger buttons, brighter colors, and only kid-friendly books.

To turn on Kids Mode, open the app and either tap the “Kids Mode” button at the bottom of the home screen or go to “Account” and switch it on. CloudLibrary will prompt you for a PIN to lock it into "Kids Mode".

You can turn it off the same way.
